It's What I Do

Currently I am residing in New England and training to be a surgeon. I graduated from a University of Texas Medical School in 2005 with an M.D. and Texas A&M University in 2000 with a B.S. in Psychology. Originally I was born in Dubuque, Iowa; moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota; and spent my formative years in Dallas, Texas. If I'm playing a sport, it most probably is golf. I love the Dallas Stars, Cowboys, Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. Now you know my life.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm watching last night's Ducks/Stars contest which I conveniently recorded on my Comcast DVR. When are the Fox Sports Net channels going to broadcast in HD? Let's all hope that comes soon. I need hockey in HD. They have Bruins games in HD, and it's the most incredible thing I've ever seen. I hope NBC will be broadcasting in HD when the second half of the season comes around. It's currently 1-1 midway through the 2nd, just in case you care.

I'm happy to say that I cranked out 6 more thank-you notes a few days ago. These are graduation present thank-you notes of course...and only 5 1/2 months late. So now I have some outlying family left and my closest friends. The friends don't care I'm sure, so they won't be mad. But if you are mad, thanks in advance, and I'll be sending you a nice note shortly (Omar and Nathan). Someone told me you can send thank-you notes up to a year from the event for wedding, so I'll just apply that rule to graduation and send them in six months so I'll actually be EARLY!

So it's snowing for the first time here in Western Massachusetts. How appropriate that it's Thanksgiving morning and we are blanketed in beautiful snowfall. I tell you what, for as shitty as Springfield is overall, it sure has been beautiful weather for the first 5 1/2 months I've lived here. The summer and fall were incredible, and now it seems the snow has arrived (late) in perfect fashion for Thanksgiving. Springfield isn't really all that bad, as there are several surrounding communities that are very quaint and wonderful. But Springfield proper has really gone into the tank according to all the locals which is stark contrast to the 80's from what I hear. It will all come back I hope. Or everyone will move to the suburbs. I'm quite glad I came out here, actually. New England is very different from Texas, and that is exactly the experience I wanted when I moved out here. It really is just like the book A Separate Peace, which you may have read in high school. All the buildings, streets, and homes are very old and are made out of red brick. The heating systems in the buildings are still coal based I think (based on the huge smoke stacks that emanate from each structure). DC would have been nice, but I wouldn't have been able to afford a beautiful home (or food for that matter) had I lived there. It would have been nice to be close to Nikolas, Lacy, and Adam too, but fortunately the surgical residents here are wonderful and are perfect fits for my personality. So at this moment I'm overjoyed to be here and very thankful for everything I have especially Kayla who has made all of this as perfect and bearable as it could be. It's probably one of the best Thanksgivings I've ever had. It certainly is an exciting time in my life.

I found Springfield on a map this weekend and thought wistfully of you while sipping a cup of hot herbal tea and looking out the back window onto the ocean while the curtains blew in the salty breeze.
