"Hey John, so I moved up to Springfield, Mass. from Houston a few months back to learn how to be a doctor. The adjustment hasn't been too bad. I went from Aeros to the Falcons minor league hockey; warm weather to cold weather; briiiisket country to clam chowda country; the 4th largest US city to...Springfield, Mass; a state where a city spelled "Boerne" is called "Bernie" to a state where a city spelled "Worchester" is called "Wusta". So really this isn't all that different...both have the Center Ice package so who cares?
I received the Vertigo show in Chicago on DVD for Christmas and of course thought of you. They really can put on a show. When U2 tickets went on sale those many months ago, I couldn't purchase tickets because I didn't know where I was going to live after graduating med school. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Your review of the concert made me even more jealous. However, U2 came to the home of the Whale on December 14th. I tried to get tickets weeks in advance but couldn't afford $200 behind the stage upper-deck seats. However, at 3PM the day of the concert, I received word my girlfriend had obtained tickets. The cardiologist for whom she works in Hartford is the Wolf Pack team doctor and "works" events at the Civic Center. He got us face-value tickets. I have included a seating chart. I think Bono may have flicked some sweat on me, but I can't confirm this with empiric evidence. What a concert!
Now all I need to do is get tickets to the Stars/Bruins on January 14th. Viva New England."
So that's my e-mail to John. Needless to say it was an incredible show. Those seats were soooo sweet. We were on row 2 from the floor. Bono was 15 feet away at several points throughout the show. The band is very much about their music and activism and less about the show, just like the last tour which was a big departure from the Pop-Mart tour. I encourage all of you to go buy the concert DVD from Chicago. Even if you're a casual U2 fan it's worth taking a look. Kayla and I had an incredible time. We were so close to the oval, I think I saw some of Adam Clayton's pimples. It was really special for me to be able to attend with her. It made the show a million times better that she was with me. I look forward to other fun stuff like that, including the Coldplay concert in March.
