It's What I Do

You seriously want to look at this stuff??

Currently I am residing in New England and training to be a surgeon. I graduated from a University of Texas Medical School in 2005 with an M.D. and Texas A&M University in 2000 with a B.S. in Psychology. Originally I was born in Dubuque, Iowa; moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota; and spent my formative years in Dallas, Texas. If I'm playing a sport, it most probably is golf. I love the Dallas Stars, Cowboys, Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. Now you know my life.

Howdy, it's been quite a while. I have a few minutes before my next operation, because the first case was cancelled. The next case is the placement of a Hickman catheter, which goes in the neck and travels to the top of the heart, so the patient can receive antibiotics for over a month because of a heart valve infection called endocarditis. The last case is a total parathyroidectomy. The parathyroids are usually four glands which sit behind the thyroid gland. They are responsible for regulating the amount of calcium in the blood, which gets all out of whack in patients who have kidney failure. A critical part of the operation is not cutting an important nerve (responsible for the vocal cords) which runs near the thyroid. Let's hope we avoid that.

I really need to update this thing more often, if only a few lines a day. (Yes, I sure seem to say that a lot.) I had a nice weekend. The Aggies and Cowboys won, Kayla and I worked in the yard a lot (power washed half the northern exposure wall which was full of algae), and the sun actually came out a few times. We're doing a lot with the house these days. We pulled the carpet in the upstairs office and had the hardwood underneath refinished. It looks great. We purchased an elliptical machine, which is almost built and ready for use. Our new garage door is installed and functional. Now we need to clean it out so a car can actually fit inside. We also purchased some nice faux blinds to put up throughout the house, but that will probably take me a while to install.

The other big issue is the upstairs bathroom and tub. It's had a leak for years most likely, but of course we didn't know how extensive it was until the ceiling on the floor below caved in (over the kitchen). So now we've had a few plumbers come in and give estimates for replacing or sealing the leak which will be quite costly. Then of course the bathroom walls and kitchen ceiling will need to be repaired. I'm really looking forward to all of that. (but of course not really)

It will be nice when the house is where we want it to be. I realize the work will never end, but the big projects are slowly being completed one by one. It looks great and will hopefully have nice resale value once it's all said and done.

Anyway, I think I have some pictures somewhere (nothing much, just golfcourse and BBQ at the Olack's). Plus, I have a blog from July when I was at Nick's wedding. I will finish it and post as well. I have pictures from that too, but can't seem to locate them currently.

I hope all of you are well. My condolences to Peter Warshaw and his family who lost his wife earlier this month. It's a terrible tragedy and a great loss.
