You seriously want to look at this stuff??

Currently I am residing in New England and training to be a surgeon. I graduated from a University of Texas Medical School in 2005 with an M.D. and Texas A&M University in 2000 with a B.S. in Psychology. Originally I was born in Dubuque, Iowa; moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota; and spent my formative years in Dallas, Texas. If I'm playing a sport, it most probably is golf. I love the Dallas Stars, Cowboys, Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. Now you know my life.

On-call. However, Dave L. came in to cover 4 hours for me this evening so I could go see Coldplay in Hartford with Kayla. They were awesome! Maybe I'll write more, but there's another trauma on the way...

Dude, the trauma never ends. It goes all night long like lumberjack. Funny how my last post also incorporated trauma (that was coincidental). See a trend here?

Yeah, so I'm sitting here with Kayla watching the movie Atonement. The little nurse just took a bandage off the soldier's head, and his brain almost fell out. Sort of reminds me of trauma.

This actually is a pretty cool movie. I haven't been paying attention to the whole thing, but it seems quite interesting. There's a lot of this "Ello Govena" going on.

Anywho, I think that's all for now.

Hello, on-call today. Had an interesting 4th of July yesterday. Most of it was spent with next door neighbors Bob and Anita. If I have time, I'll try and write about it.

The main reason I'm writing is for nostalgic purposes. The building at the hospital where the residents' call rooms are stationed is being torn down soon. It's been scheduled to be torn down for 5 years, and it seems that it actually will be torn down in the next few months. I'm slowly gathering my personal belongings and taking stuff back home piecemeal. Of note, I was going through the old books and such and came across my legendary 2005-2006 Hooters Calendar. The 2005-2006 Hooters Calendar was already in my call room when I arrived as an intern in July of 2005. This calendar was given to one of the Muslim residents as a gag gift (as this sort of thing is forbidden in his religion), and the calendar remained posted for 3 years, even though the dates were incorrect. (The pictures are great, of course). My lovely wife, knew I had this calendar with the incorrect dates, so she purchased me a current 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit calendar (how cool is that). Therefore, there really is no reason to keep the old Hooters Calendar. At this point, I've seen all the cover girls 3 years over and know all of them as if they were personal friends. I didn't want to throw it away for nostalgic purposes, as the calendar has been in the call room since I started here. However, now that the story has been immortalized in this here blog, I can finally throw the calendar in the trash. And there you have it.

Had a bittersweet time in Englishtown, New Jersey over the weekend. Kayla and I were down there to see the Lucas Oil Supernationals (NHRA drag racing). Unfortunately, we had to witness the tragic death of Scott Kalitta who died after a fantastic run in his funny car during qualifying. There was an explosion in the engine just as he passed the finish line. We think he was knocked unconscious as there was no attempt to slow the car down after the finish line. He crashed into concrete wall at the end of the track. His death was instant. I still have that empty feeling in my stomach, which I suppose won't be going away for quite a while. My prayers go out to the Kalitta family and all drag racers.

I am trying to find the "silver lining" if there could ever be one for this weekend's festivities. Kayla and I spent a lot of time with Hot Rod Fuller, Rob Flynn, and Ted Yerzyk. Most certainly that was the highlight of the trip. All of the guys who work at David Powers Motorsports are incredible people. Every crew member from the driver to the clutch guy will always stop and talk with the fans. By far it is the most integrated community I have ever seen in sports.

It was cool to get to know Rod, Rob, and Ted better. I didn't get to chat with Rod last year so much, as I was trying to take it all in. This year was different; however, I suspect much of that has to do with my wife being with me. Rod sure likes to give her hugs. Lots of hugs. He even gave me a couple hugs, probably just to get more hugs from Kayla. That's alright though, he's a pretty cool character. It was great to have a couple of drinks with him the night before final eliminations, which he rarely does. Rob Flynn is the brains behind the car. Unfortunately he is Canadian and even worse, is from Edmonton and loves the Oilers. I demolished him in fantasy hockey by the way. A guy from Texas demolished a Canadian in fantasy hockey (sort of like all those years the Dallas team whipped the Edmonton team in the playoffs). However, I will say I have no idea how to make a dragster travel down the quarter mile at 330 miles per hour. He has that on me. And damn isn't that just the coolest thing?! We spent a lot of time with Rob too, which I really enjoyed. He's such a smart guy and really knows a lot about racing. I can learn a lot from him; that is for certain.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with the Kalitta family. At the same time, Kayla and I really had a wonderful time in Englishtown with all the Caterpillar and Matco team members. We can't thank them enough and hope to see them all soon.

My wife keeps spending all my money on scrapbooking stuff. When did this become popular? And when did construction paper start costing $10 a sheet??

Can you imagine how much money we'd save if this activity were abolished? Can you imagine how much more golf I could play with the extra money??

P.S. Am I gay for enjoying the song "What Goes Around" by Justin Timberlake? Cause I'm listening to it with Kayla, and it has a pretty sweet beat/buttery chorus. <------WTF??
